Pembroke, N.C. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team started off the 2020-21 season strong with a 75-71 overtime road win against Peach Belt Conference opponent UNC Pembroke.
After ending regulation tied at 60, four points from senior Chrisalyn Boston and crucial 3-pointers from freshmen Amber Abusbeih and Emilia Tenbrock lifted CSU to the season-opening victory.
Beginning the fourth quarter down by four, CSU went on an 8-2 run out-scoring the Braves 16-12, forcing an extra period.
Junior Jurnee Smith and Tenbrock led the Lady Cougars with 20 points each. Smith shot 100% (5-for-5) from the free throw line and added three 3-pointers, while Tenbrock hit two 3's and was 6-for-9 from the field.
Boston recorded her ninth career double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing a career-high 19 rebounds. Freshman Olonna Rawls also added 12 rebounds while chipping in eight points.
Columbus State will return home to the Frank G. Lumpkin Center on Wednesday, Jan. 13 against Clayton State University at 5:30 p.m.
