GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team fell 81-62 to No. 4 Lander University in the team's Peach Belt Conference opener Friday afternoon.
CSU (6-4, 0-1 PBC) was down just two, 37-35, at halftime before Lander opened the second half on an 11-2 run and never looked back to grab the victory.
Olonna Rawls led the Lady Cougars with 18 points after going 2-for-3 from 3-point range. The sophomore added four rebounds and three steals.
Chrisalyn Boston was the only other CSU player in double figures in scoring with 12.
Jurnee Smith nearly had a double-double with nine points and 11-rebounds. She also had a team-high four assists.
Makaila Cange was 9-for-12 from the field to lead Lander with 21 points. Miriam Recarte had nine points, 14 rebounds and seven blocks.Â
The two teams combined for 41 turnovers with LU turning the ball over 21 times.Â
As a team, Columbus State shot 31.9% (22-for-69) and was 4-of-15 (26.7%) from long range. Lander shot 51.5% (34-for-66) and 40% (6-for-15) from three.
