Softball Falls At No. 21 West Florida

The Cougars lost 7-1 to the Argonauts on Tuesday in Pensacola.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Columbus State University softball team fell to 20-10 on Tuesday afternoon after losing a non-conference game against 21st-ranked University of West Florida 7-1.

The Cougars couldn't find any offensive momentum as the lone run of the game came from a Morgan Elston solo blast to left field in the top of the sixth inning.

Laura Harris and Lindsey Patton also collected a hit each. Harris singled down the right field line in the top of the third, while Patton's hit came in the fourth with another single to right field.

West Florida scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and five in the fifth to seal the 7-1 victory. Jacquelynne Poling led the Argonauts going 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Laurynn Boggs also added a double and tallied two RBIs.

Hannah Rose Corbin started the game for Columbus State and pitched five innings. The second-year sophomore allowed seven hits, struck out four, walked three and gave up seven runs to fall to 11-5 in the circle this year. Riley Patton came in for relief, striking out two in one inning of work.

Grace Gilbert earned the win in the circle and improved to 7-4.
