AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University track and field program garnered awards from the Peach Belt Conference as
Ar'Rionne Hickson was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week while
Savian Taylor captured the Male Track Athlete of the Week award on Tuesday.
Hickson had four top-10 finishes at the 2021 Berry Field Day Invitational over the weekend. She set a PBC qualifying mark in the shot put with a fourth-place showing with a throw of 11.11 meters. The sophomore also finished fourth in the discus throw (32.87 meters). She also set new PRs in the hammer (37.25 meters, 7th) and the javelin (22.72 meters, 10th).
Taylor continued his great freshman season this weekend by capturing his fourth 800-meter title. He crossed the tape ion 1:51.16 to best the field by half a second. Taylor is the only runner to post a sub-1:54.00 time in the 800-meter in the PBC this season and holds the quickest time in the conference with a 1:51.02, which is a DII provisional mark. It's his second PBC weekly award this year.
The track and field teams will be back in action to conclude the regular season at the University of Mobile Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala. on Saturday, April 17.Â
