Women's Basketball Adds D1 Transfer, Local Star Reese

Alycia Reese graduated from Carver High School before playing one year at Auburn University.

COLUMBUS - A former hometown prep star is back in Columbus as Columbus State University women's basketball head coach Matt Houser announced Alycia Reese as the newest Lady Cougar for the 2021-22 season.

Reese, who graduated from Carver High School, played at Auburn University last season and appeared in 16 games. She averaged 3.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in just under 14 minutes per game. The guard scored a season-high 10 points twice, including against the University of Tennessee.

"Alycia is going to do great in the Peach Belt Conference," commented Houser. "Her ability to play lock-up defense, hit the 3-point shot and take players off the dribble is why she was at Auburn and playing DI ball. She is a great kid on and off the court which plays into our Cougar Culture, and we are lucky to have her on the team."

Prior to enrolling at Auburn, Reece played two seasons at Chattahoochee Valley Community College across the river in Phenix City, Ala. She was a first team all-conference selection in her sophomore season, averaging a team-high 12.8 points per game to go along with  3.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Reece nearly brought home a state championship for the Carver in 2017, leading the Tigers to the championship game. In that season, she averaged over 13 points and 2 rebounds per game. She was also a two-sport standout, also playing softball.
