COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's basketball team cruised past Georgia College 83-58 Saturday afternoon in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. The Lady Cougars improved to 11-9 (4-6 PBC), while the Bobcats fell to 5-14 (2-8 PBC).
Columbus State outscored Georgia College in every quarter, with
Olonna Rawls leading the Lady Cougars in scoring with 17 points.
Imani Arnold (13),
Jurnee Smith (11) and
Chrisalyn Boston (11) all scored in double-digits as well.
Arnold and Boston each grabbed eight rebounds, with Arnold going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and Boston shooting a perfect 3-for-3. Smith recorded seven rebounds and six assists.
The damage was done in the second quarter after GC held in after the first 10 minutes of play. CSU held the Bobcats scoreless for the first six-plus minutes of the quarter and used an 11-0 run to build a 31-18 lead. Georgia College was able to cut into the lead a little before the half, but CSU still head a 41-31 advantage.
The Lady Cougars shot over 40% in the second half and outscored GC 23-12 in the third quarter to build up the dominating lead. Arnold was able to get it going, scoring 11 in the 10-minute period. The lead was never in question in the fourth as the Lady Cougars snapped a three-game losing streak.
CSU will host USC Aiken on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center.
