Lady Cougar Basketball Looks For Another Key Win

The Lady Cougars and North Georgia are both ranked in the NCAA Southeast Region rankings.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's basketball team will look for its third straight win on Saturday as No. 14 North Georgia arrives in Columbus. The Peach Belt Conference game will tipoff at 1:30 p.m. inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.

LAST TIME OUT
• Columbus State (14-11, 7-8 PBC) grabbed its biggest win of the year, knocking off Georgia Southwestern University 73-63 in overtime in Americus, Ga. The Lady Cougars scored the final four points in regulation before outscoring the Hurricanes 16-6 in overtime to record the road victory

CSU NOTES
• The Lady Cougars are 10th in the initial NCAA Southeast Region rankings. CSU's win against GSW will help its resume as the Hurricanes are third in the first rankings 
• CSU is still fourth in the PBC standings after Wednesday night. The Lady Cougars and Clayton State are both 7-8 in PBC play, but Columbus State holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. Augusta is one-game behind CSU and Clayton State
• Columbus State has shot nearly 40% (73-for-187) over its last three games
• The Lady Cougars will close out its home regular-season slate on Saturday. CSU is 6-5 on Herbert Greene Court this season
• Chrisalyn Boston is averaging 16.8 rebounds over the last four games with four double-doubles
• CSU is 0-3 against ranked opponents this season 

NORTH GEORGIA NOTES
• North Georgia (19-3, 13-2) enters Saturday as the 14th-ranked team in the nation and the top-ranked team in the first NCAA Southeast Region rankings
• The Nighthawks are back in first in the PBC following CSU's win over Georgia Southwestern. UNG holds a half-game leader of GSW and currently holds the tiebreaker over the Hurricanes
• Julianne Sutton is fourth in the PBC in both scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.3 rebs/g). She is shooting 54.4% from the floor, the second-best mark in the league
• Josie Earnhardt (40.6%, 3rd) and Abbie Franklin (37.7%, 4th) are two of the best 3-point shooters in the PBC and are threats for UNG
• The Nighthawks are 10th in the nation (DII level) in rebounding margin (9.5) and 18th in 3-point shooting (35.5%)

SERIES HISTORY
• North Georgia now leads the all-time series 17-16 over Columbus State following its 85-53 win in Dahlonega, Ga. on Jan. 22. CSU played with only seven players due to COVID-19 protocols
• UNG has won seven straight, with CSU's last win over the Nighthawks coming on Jan. 31, 2018
