ANDERSON, S.C. - The No. 7 Columbus State University women's tennis team grabbed a 6-1 decision over Anderson University to begin the 2022 season on Wednesday. The non-conference match took place at the Anderson Tennis Complex.
CSU (1-0) grabbed control of the match after taking all three doubles matches to earn the opening point of the afternoon. The Lady Cougars took second and third doubles with ease, but Mariana Ramirez and Valentina Abrile had to work for a 7-6 victory in the first doubles position. Freshman Yelena Labat also grabbed an upset victory at third doubles, winning 6-2, 6-4 over No. 49 Anna Greer.
Anderson (0-1) battled in singles play with first and second singles going into third sets. However, Abrile was able to down Blavin 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 at first singles, while Ramirez knocked off Roberson 6-3, 7-6, 6-1 at second singles. The Trojans were able to grab a win at the sixth spot with Borda defeating Bigotti 6-2, 6-4.

Columbus State will have a Division I showdown against Alabama State University on Friday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala. The match will take place at Ocean Black Underwood Tennis Complex.
