FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team dropped a pair of games to non-conference contender Emmanuel College Tuesday, March 22. The Cougars fall to 13-14 while the Lions improve to 21-12.
GAME 1: EC 4, CSU 3
Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning down by one, Emmanuel's Chloe Nadler ripped a two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Lions the walk-off 4-3 victory.
Paige Vincent was the heart of the Cougar offense as the sophomore collected all three RBIs in the game and went 2-for-4. She jacked a two-run bomb to left field to tie the game 2-2 in the second inning, then delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth.
Caitlyn Canady went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, while
Hannah Rose Corbin went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Corbin (10-5) collected the loss inside the circle after striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work.
GAME 2: EC 4, CSU 3
Columbus State got on the board with solo homers from
Madeline Parker in the third inning and
Laura Harris in the fourth, giving CSU a 2-0 lead over Emmanuel.Â
The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a RBI triple from Glory Thompson and a RBI single by Nadler. EC extended its lead by two in the fifth inning with back-to-back RBI singles.
The Cougars tried to rally back for the win, but came up short in the top of the seventh. Parker got things rolling by getting hit by a pitch, then
Christine Vaughn smacked a pinch hit single to put runners in scoring position. With two outs, Canady made it bases loaded with a single and a Lions' passed ball allowed pinch runner
Taylor Currie to score from third.
Jessica Lopez received the loss after two innings of work and falls to 2-5 inside the circle.
