No. 4 Women's Tennis Grabs 10th Straight Win

CSU is now 8-0 at home this season.

COLUMBUS - The fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team won its 10th straight match on Wednesday after taking down Valdosta State University 5-2 at the Walden Tennis Center.

The Lady Cougars also remain unbeaten at the Walden Tennis Complex in 2022, moving to 8-0.

CSU (14-4) started its final regular-season non-conference match with a bang, sweeping all three doubles matches. No. 17 Valentina Abirle and Mariana Ramirez were dominant at first doubles in a 6-1 win over Magda Tuells Bonet and Natalie Kohoutkova. Second and third doubles were both decided by 6-4 margins. Neila Trklja and Agostina Bigotti won at second doubles over Anastasiia Vorobiova and Rachelle Starreveld, while Yelena Labat and Luciana Galves knocked off Adriana Barrio and Andrea Barrio.

The top of the CSU lineup was on point on Wednesday as the first four won in straight sets. Ninth-ranked Trklja was pushed in the first set, but breezed to a 7-5, 6-0 win at first singles against Bonet. Mariana Ramirez matched up with Vorobiova and had no problem at second singles, winning 6-2, 6-2. Abrile found an upset win at third singles over 43rd-ranked Kohoutkova. The Cordoba, Argentina native cruised to the 6-3, 6-4 victory. Labat had one of the most impressive performances during the afternoon at fourth singles in a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Elisa Beau.

Valdosta State (7-11) put two wins on the board after taking fifth and sixth singles. Adriana Barrio won in the fifth spot over Galves 6-3, 6-4, while Starreveld edged Bigotti 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 at sixth singles.
