AIKEN, S.C. -Â The Columbus State University softball team capped off a three-game Peach Belt Conference sweep with a 10-2 win over USC Aiken on Sunday.
The Cougars complete the regular season with a 28-23 (17-7 PBC) record, while the Pacers are now 29-21 (11-13).
CSU wasted no time in the final game of the PBC schedule as the Cougars scored three runs in the top of the first inning. With two outs and runners on first and second,
Madeline Parker blasted a three-run home run over the right field fence to give CSU the early 3-0 lead.
However, in the bottom half of the inning, Aiken plated two runs off two hits and an rror to cut the Cougars' lead to only one.Â
Columbus State added two more runs in the third, making it a 5-2 ballgame. Parker delivered again with two outs, ripping an RBI double into right center field to plate Corbin from second base. With the bases loaded, Aiken's pitcher, Lakyn Phillips, walked
Laura Harris and allowed another run to score.
After a long lightning and rain delay which stopped the game in the top of the sixth, the Cougars returned to the field and scored three more runs off of back-to-back doubles by
Paige Vincent and Bayer.
CSU added two more runs in the seventh thanks to a two-run RBI triple from Canady.
Haylee Folds (5-5) pitched four innings and recorded the win.
Bayer went 3-for-5 to lead CSU while Canady and Parker each collected two hits.
