Women's Basketball Falls in PBC Quarterfinals

The Lady Cougars lost 71-75 to Clayton State.

AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team fell 71-75 to Clayton State University in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday, March 1 inside Storm Dome on Georgia Southwestern State University's campus. The Lady Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 15-12 (9-9 PBC). The Lakers move on to the Semifinals on Thursday, March 2.

Columbus State and Clayton State were back-and-forth throughout the entire game with each team taking control in every other period. The Lady Cougars outscored the Lakers in the first and third quarter, and the Lakers won the  second and fourth.

It all came down to foul trouble. Four Lady Cougars had four fouls each in the fourth quarter, leading to All-PBC Third Team selections Olonna Rawls and Amber Abusbeih fouling out with a few minutes left in the game. Clayton State took advantage of Columbus State' foul trouble and started adding on points with just three minutes left. 

NOTES:
  • Emilia Tenbrock led the Lady Cougars with 21 points and nine rebounds
  • Abusbeih posted 14 points, four assists and shot 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the free-throw line
  • Letiya Reeves recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and was a perfect 2-for-2 in free-throws
  • Rawls tallied nine points and six rebounds, also shooting 87.5 percent (7-for-8) from the free-throw line
  • Simone Lett added seven points and seven rebounds
  • Columbus State shot 31.8 percent (21-for-66) from the field, 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from three-point range and 83.3 percent (25-for-30) from the charity line
