CSU coaching staff receives strength and conditioning training

The new weight room in the Lumpkin Center is a partnership between CSU Athletics and the Hughston Clinic.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University Athletics staff and coaches received strength and conditioning training so they can successfully and safely train the CSU student-athletes in the new and upcoming weight room. The facility is located in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center and is a partnership between the Hughston Clinic and CSU Athletics.

Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Senior Woman Administrator, Tanika Colvin, invited Cody Hughes, Director of Human Performance and Head Strength Coach at Madison Academy, to give an overview of the facility to the coaches on Tuesday, Aug. 1 so they can prepare their student-athletes for maximum performance on their fields of competition.

"We're excited to take the next step in the development of our student-athletes and injury prevention with the Champ L. Baker Jr. Sports Performance Center," commented Colvin. "This partnership is not only going to change the performance development of our student-athletes, but also enhance their health and welfare."

The facility is a unique space for student-athletes to train and develop for their competitive seasons. It features six versatile racks, two dumbbell rack stations, six hex bars, four versatile machines, various medicine balls and tex bands, all provided by Hammer Strength. The facility is only available for the use of CSU varsity athletic teams. An official ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication with the Hughston Clinic will take place and the teams will begin training in the weight room this fall.
