PENSACOLA, Fla. – Columbus State University Women's Basketball took on West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars (4-2) moved back into the win column with an 80-66 win over the Argonauts (4-1) in the UWF Field House.
First Quarter
UWF and CSU battled early in back-and-forth action, trading control of the scoreline before leveling at 8-8 with 6:47 to play. The Argonauts closed out the period by besting the Lady Cougars 15-8 to hold a 23-16 lead.
Zuzanna Rudenko led CSU with five points while going 2-of-2 from the field, followed by four from
Bre'lyn Snipes.
Second Quarter
Columbus State chipped away at a double-digit deficit and pulled within a two-possession ball game in less than three minutes with a spark from Snipes from beyond-the-arc. CSU continued to battle and produced eight points in the following three or so minutes to pull the deficit to 33-30 with 2:15 remaining. Unfortunately, UWF went on an 8-2 run to close the second quarter with a 41-32 lead.
Third Quarter
The second half would go on to flip the game in favor of CSU, beginning with an improved quarter in the third frame. Columbus State out-scored West Florida 20-16 with
Olonna Rawls surging with eight points, going 3-for-3 from the field.
Letiya Reeves and Snipes both went 2-of-3 from the field to gather four points as well. The Lady Cougars turned a 14-point deficit into just a five-point gap with 10 minutes to play as UWF led 57-52.
Fourth Quarter
Columbus State lit up the fourth quarter and bested the Argonauts 28-9, shooting 9-of-16 from the field, 3-of-4 from three, and 7-of-9 from the foul line. Reeves gathered nine points while Snipes put together six to help lead the way.
Jasmine Rai Stevens sparked a huge run for CSU to flip the game into an eight-point lead with 3:21 remaining.
Columbus State never looked back and secured a chunk of insurance points from the foul line to eventually win 80-66. One of the keys to the quarter was the 11 turnovers from UWF turned into seven steals for CSU with the Lady Cougars capitalizing for 12 points.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lady Cougars finished shooting for 44.4% (28-of-63) from the field, 40% (8-of-20) from three, and 69.6% (16-of-23) from the foul line.
- Three CSU players totaled double-digit points with Reeves leading with 20, Snipes with 19, and Rawls with 13.
- Stevens picked up eight points and led with 10 boards to aid in securing a 38-33 advantage in rebounds for the Lady Cougars.
- CSU finished with 16 steals off 24 UWF turnovers with Snipes and Rawls both notching three apiece.
- Rawls dished out four assists followed by Sophia Williams with three.
- CSU produced a total of 23 points off turnovers.
- Columbus State is now 5-4 versus West Florida.
