COLUMBUS – Columbus State University Women's Basketball welcomes Wingate (N.C.) for the 2024-25 home opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars (4-2) host the Bulldogs (3-3) at the Frank G. Lumpkin, Jr. Center for a 1:30 p.m. ET tip.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Wingate is riding a two-game winning streak and is coming off a 68-55 road win at Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are 3-3 on the season with a highlight victory over then 10th-ranked Fayetteville State (N.C.)
The Bulldogs average 64.0 points per game and are shooting for 41.8% from the field, 22.2% from three, and 67.5% from the foul line. Wingate is led by Lia Anderson who averages 15.8 points per contest and 8.7 rebounds. Laney Beale leads the offense with an average of 4.7 assists per game.
Previewing the Lady Cougars
Columbus State is returning to play after the 80-66 win at West Florida on Tuesday night. CSU has moved to 4-2 on the season and are averaging 78.8 points per game with a scoring margin of 9.2. As a team, the Lady Cougars are shooting for 39.8% from the field, 31.2% from three, and 76.6% from the foul line.
Defense continues to be the name of the game for CSU, as the Lady Cougars average 17.5 steals per game with an average of three blocks as well. CSU totals an average of 27.2 points of turnovers. Individually,
Olonna Rawls leads with an average of 3.7 steals and
Bre'lyn Snipes leads with an average of 1.3 blocks per game.
Offensively, CSU has three Lady Cougars in double-digit points production led by
Letiya Reeves with a scoring average of 16.7 points. Rawls and Snipes follows with averages of 14.3 and 13.2 points, respectively.
Columbus State is 2-4 versus Wingate and look to snap the two-game losing streak versus the Bulldogs. The two last met on Nov. 29, 2023, in Wingate, N.C.
