AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University softball team defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 10-2 in five innings Friday evening to win their first Peach Belt Conference game of the season. The Cougars improve to 6-9 (1-0 PBC) while the Hurricanes fall to 7-8 (0-1 PBC).
Brooke Miller gave Columbus State the first three runs of the game after back-to-back doubles in the first and third innings. GSW's Zoe Willis hit a solo home run in the third to minimzie CSU's lead to two runs.
In the fourth,
Katelyn Cooper hit a two-run RBI single through the right side, and
Lindsey Patton jacked a three-run homer to center field to make it 8-1.
Grace Kiser then ripped a two-run home run over the right center field fence, giving CSU their 10th run.Â
Miller led the Cougars with two hits and three RBIs.
Haylee Folds collected the win inside the circle after 4.0 innings pitched.
The Cougars and Hurricanes will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
