AMERICUS, Ga. - The third-seeded Columbus State University women's basketball team took second place at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday, March 10 after losing 52-57 to first-seeded Georgia Southwestern State University.
After having a 30-25 lead headed into the second half, the Lady Cougars lost it when the Hurricanes outscored CSU 18-14 in the third quarter, and 14-8 in the fourth to runaway with the championship. With the loss, Columbus State falls to 19-10 overall.
Amber Abusbeih led CSU with 19 points and added four steals.
Simone Lett scored 12 points, shooting 6-8 from the free throw line.
Olonna Rawls and
Letiya Reeves each tallied eight points and Rawls grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars shot 33.3 percent from the field, 23.5 from the three-point line and 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.
The 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Selection Show will air Sunday, March 10th at 10:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. CSU is currently ranked ninth in the Southeast Region as of March 3. The top eight teams in each region make the tournament.
