Softball Sets New Single Game Home Run Record, Beats GCSU

The softball team hit seven home runs in Saturday's win over Georgia College.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team set a new record for the most home runs in a single game in the Cougars 13-5 win over Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia College State University Saturday evening.

The Cougars smacked seven home runs to beat the previous record of six home runs vs. Flagler College on April 18, 2015. Brooke Miller and Nova Wright led Columbus State with two homers each, while Grace Kiser, Laura Harris and Caitlyn Canady each hit one home run a piece. Wright led CSU going 2-for-3 with five RBIs and Miller also collected two hits and tallied four RBIs.

GCSU got five runs off of a home run, an error, a two-run single and a double.

Julianna Franklin improves to 3-2 inside the circle after receiving the win. Franklin pitched 2.1 innings in relief and only allowed two hits and struck out the only batter for GCSU.

The Cougars and Bobcats will be back at Cougar Field on Sunday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
