Track & Field Wraps Up Thrills In The Hills

The Cougars competed two days at Emory University.

ATLANTA - The Columbus State University track and field teams wrapped up two days of competition at the Emory University Thrills in the Hills meet this weekend.

On day one, rain and high winds were the biggest competitions for the Lady Cougars track and field team. Freshman Kayli Miller placed 5th in the hammer throw with a distance of 30.99m (101'8"). Miller also placed 7th in the shot put with a mark of 9.50 (31'2"), and teammate Dana McDaniel placed 9th with a mark of 9.50m (31'2").

On the track, Senior Royal Delay ran the 3000m Steeple Chase and placed 5th; Delay crossed the line with a time of 13:34.14.

On day one, the men's field events had three Cougars in the top ten of the hammer throw. Senior Justin Love placed 6th 42.38m (139'1"), Luke Herron placed 8th 38.86 (127'6"), and Senior Afolabi Olatunde placed 10th 38.01m (124'8"). In the shot put, three more Cougars placed in the top ten; Tyler Southern placed 2nd at 13.32m (43'8.5"), placing 5th was Freshman Raylene' Magby at 12.91m (42'4.25"), followed by Tereil Mitchum in 6th place 12.86m (42'2.25").

On the track, Mark Ravenscraft placed 5th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.03s; Reece Pasley crossed the line at 59.72s, securing him 8th place. In the 200m, Devin Brimidge crossed the line in 22.35s, grabbing 8th place. Eli Sires was the first Cougar to cross the line in the 3000m steeple chase crossing the line at 11:00.85. Freshman Zane Bell finished the race in 9th place with a time of 11:58.06.

Day two started with the lady Cougars fighting the wind on the pole vault runway. Freshman Sarah Arnold and Jenna cleared a height of 3.00m (9'10"), placing them in 7th and 9th place, respectively. In the discus, Kayli Miller placed 8th at 30.66m (100'7"), and teammate Dana McDaniel placed 11th at 27.56m (90'5").

On the track, Nakhia Montgomery sprinted her way to a personal best of 12.07s in the 100m. Freshman Liza Varnum placed 5th in the 100m hurdles; she crossed the line, stopping the clock at 16.82s.

On the men's side, Senior Justin Love placed 2nd in the discus, with a distance of 41.43m (135'11"); Love also placed 4th in the javelin at 45.91m (150'7"). In the triple jump Senior Kevin Wood landed in 3rd place with a jump of 13.33m (43'8.75").

Will Player ended the day in spectacular fashion as he did the week before. Player cleared the cross bar at a height of 5.05m (16'6.75"), breaking the school record for the second weekend in a row. Freshman Timothy Lamb placed 3rd clearing a height of 4.45m (14'7.25").

On the track, Senior Savian Taylor crossed the finish line in 10th place in the 400m, stopping the clock at 50.65s.

The Cougars will be back in action at the University of West Georgia Legends meet in Carrollton, GA, April 5-6.
