COLUMBUS - The second seed Columbus State softball team lost the first game of the Peach Belt Conference tournament 4-5 on Friday to seventh seed Georgia Southwestern State University at Cougar Field.
The Hurricanes hit four home runs and scored all five runs because of those home runs. GSW took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first off a two-run bomb, scored two more runs in the fourth off of two solo homers, then in the sixth, the Hurricanes broke the tie ball game with another solo home run.Â
Nova Wright put the Cougars within one run of the Canes in the fourth with a pinch-hit three-run home run.
Laura Harris tied the game 4-4 in the fifth with a RBI single up the middle.Â
Both CSU and GSW tallied eight hits. Harris led the Cougars with two hits while Wright grabbed three RBI.
Jessica Lopez received the loss inside the circle after 3.0 innings of work.

CSU drops to the losers bracket and will play third seed Lander University at 3 p.m. at Cougar Field on Saturday. The Cougars will have to win two games on Saturday to advance to the championship on Sunday.
