Softball beats Lander and GCSU to advance to PBC Championship

Brooke Miller hit a grand slam to beat Lander 11-7 and Laura Harris ripped a walk-off three-run bomb to beat GCSU.

COLUMBUS - The second seed Columbus State University softball team battled through two wins on Saturday to survive and advance to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game on Sunday, beating third seed Lander University 11-7 and sixth seed Georgia College & State University 10-7.

Both games were back-and-forth as all teams were battling to stay alive. In game one, Brooke Miller launched a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Cougars an 11-7 lead over the Bearcats. In bottom of the eighth inning in the nightcap game, Laura Harris ripped a walk-off three-run home run over the right field wall to advance CSU to Sunday.

  • Behe did it again in the fourth, giving the Bearcats a one-run lead with a single, but a bases loaded ground out from CSU's Harris scored Katelyn Cooper to tied the game again
  • In the top of the sixth, LU's Emily Allen made it a 7-6 ball game with a RBI single up the middle. The Cougars started chipping away in the next half inning with Nova Wright hitting a RBI single up the middle to score Cooper to tie it before Miller stepped to the plate to launch the game-winning grand slam
  • Julianna Franklin earned the win inside the circle after entering the game second inning
