How It Happened

The Falcons jumped on the board first after a homer to right field that scored two.

Columbus State went scoreless in the bottom of the first but bounced back after Grace Kiser doubled to right field to score Brooke Miller. Madison McDonald then scored Kristen Odum on a sacrifice fly out to left field, tying the game at 2-2.

Caitlyn Canady then stepped up to the plate, hitting her first triple of the game, sent down the left field line, scoring Kiser.

To end the Cougars hot run in the bottom of the second, Katelyn Cooper singled through the left side to score Canady from third making the score 4-2 headed into the third inning.

Kenzie Bayer hit her ninth home run of the season, sending the long ball over the left field wall, pushing the Cougars' lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third.

Montevallo responded in the top of the fifth, scoring a run off a throwing error made by the CSU defense.

In the bottom of the fifth, Canady singled to left field, scoring Bayer from third base. Cooper then came up to the plate and singled through the left side to score Kiser, making the score 7-3 heading into the top of the sixth.

The Falcons could not push any runs across in the top of the sixth, handing the bat over to the hot Cougar offense.
Bayer scored the first run of the sixth inning off a double to left field, scoring Lindsey Patton. Madison Norrell then scored Miller off a fielder's choice to the first baseman, posting a 9-3 score and handing the bat to McDonald.

McDonald singled to right center, scoring Bayer from third base. Caitlyn Canady then hit her second triple of the game, scoring McDonald from second in the sixth inning to give the Cougars an 11-3 run-rule victory in Game One.
