CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Columbus State University track and field teams competed in the UWG Legends Invitational hosted by the University of West Georgia on April 5 and 6 in Carroltton, Ga.
Day One
Day one was capped off by Senior Justin Love breaking the school record in the hammer throw, placing 3rd with a throw of 48.31m (158'06"). Kevin Wood placed 2nd in the triple jump with a personal record of 13.94m (45'09"). Tereil Mitchum placed 4th in the shot put with a mark of 14.51m (47'07.25").
Dante Walls placed 3rd in the 400m hurdles crossing the line at 54.15s. Walls was followed by Mark Ravenscraft who crossed the line in 5th place with a time of 55.83s.
Deandra "Dee Dee" Downer walked away from the sandpit, placing 6th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.28m (37"0.25").
The 17 athletes who represented Columbus State University on Day One had a strong showing, at the end of day one, the Cougars were in 5th place overall.
Day Two
Senior Royal Delay placed 4th in the 800m, finishing the race with a time of 2:22.94.
In the pole vault, Freshman Sadie Arnold finished 9th with a height of 3.05m (10'0"), and Jenna Rolen placed 11th with a height of 2.90m (9'6.25").
The Lady Cougars' 4x100m relay team consisting of Sophomore Nakhia Montgomery, Junior Syni Lacy, Sophomore Dee Dee Downer, and Freshman Liza Varnum finished 9th.
The Lady Cougars' 4x400m relay team, consisting of Freshman Liza Varnum, Freshman Markayla Moore, Sophomore Jenna Rolen, and Senior Royal Delay, placed 6th.
Senior Savian Taylor finished 4th in the 800m on the men's side, crossing the line at 1:55.72. Freshman Kade Harmon finished in 10th place, clocking a time of 50.56.
Senior Gary Grimes placed 5th in the 110m high hurdles; Grimes crossed the finish line at 15.26s.
Daniel Leonard ran the 5k and finished the race in 10th place with a time of 15:41.17.
In the 3000m steeple chase, Nicholas Phillips finished in 6th place with a time of 10:36.58; Phillips was accompanied by Elijah Sires, who finished in 8th place with a time of 10:49.60.
The Cougars' 4x100m relay team consisting of Junior Jahmai Dillon, Freshman Rashad Amey, Junior Dante Walls, and Junior Jailen Dalton finished in 8th place.
The Cougars had three 4x400m relay teams finish in the top ten. The A Team, consisting of Freshman Anthony Brown Jr., Freshman Kade Harmon, Junior Dante Walls, and Senior Savian Taylor, finished in 4th place. The B team, consisting of Senior TaQuarus Eberhart, Sophomore Tyler Thomas, Junior Kenneth Brooks, and Junior Mark Ravenscraft, placed 7th. The C team, consisting of Ryan McKelphin, McDonald Tandoh, Elijah Sires, and Reece Pasley, finished in 8th place.
Justin Love, coming off his record-breaking hammer throw on day one, placed 7th in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.47m (145"10").
Jarvis Evans placed 6th in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.85m (6').75.
In the pole vault competition, Alex Kendall finished 3rd and 4th, clearing a height of 4.25m (13'11.25"). Freshman Drake Dalton placed 10th clearing a height of 3.50m (11'5.75")
