COLUMBUS – Columbus State women's basketball opened the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center to Peach Belt Conference rivals USC Aiken (Ga.) Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars (11-4, 5-1 PBC) outpaced the Pacers (3-13, 0-6 PBC) at home with an 81-70 win to continue their latest winning streak to four games.
First Quarter
Aiken opened up the game with a layup a minute into the game. About 40 seconds later, Simone Lett got the ball rolling for Columbus State with an assist by Aaliyah Ferrell. Ferrell made her second steal and assisted Letiya Reeves to make it 7-8. Haelim Adle ended the first quarter scoring for the Lady Cougars trailing slightly 14-15.
Second Quater
Less than a minute into the quarter, Reeves opened the scoring for CSU with a nice 3-pointer tying the game at 17. As scoring is going back and forth between the two teams, Jasmine Rai Stevens makes another 3-pointer for the Lady Cougars assisted by Adle. Kristyn Goshay led them with a total of 10 points of 4-of-5 shots with the score at half 32-28.
Third Quater
Aiken starts the quarter with a 3-pointer, but Goshay responds 17 seconds later with her third 3-pointer of the game making the score 31-35. Ferrel makes her fifth steal of the game and fourth point overall. The Lady Cougars closed out the quarter going 11-of-20 at the field goal with a score of 46-59.
Fourth Quater
Amanda Ogbonna continued the lead for Columbus State at the start of the final quarter with a layup to make her fourth point. With a 12-point lead over USC Aiken, Zuzanna Rudenko made two back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 67-51. The Lady Cougars finish shooting 7-16 on the field and 4-of-8 from three to end the game with an 11-point lead over the Pacers.
