COLUMBUS, GA. – Columbus State University softball swept Albany State during their Tuesday doubleheader matchup.
The Lady Cougars (7-1) took two wins against the Rams (2-4) taking game one 9-1 and game two 8-0.
Game One - Columbus State 9, Albany State 1
The Cougars went up early in the first inning after Mary-Catherine Sorrell hit a double down the line to get onto second, and then Gracyn Gurley hit a double to bring in Sorrell. Nova Wright added to the fun after hitting an outfield single that allowed Gurley to come in to bring the Cougars up 2-0. After two stolen bases from Anna Waites and Wright, Kara Wegienka singled to center field to allow Waites and Wright to come into home plate. The Cougars ended the first inning with a 4-0 lead, three stolen bases, and four RBIs.
A rain delay halted the game in the bottom of the second for a little over an hour, however, the Cougar's momentum kept going once play resumed. Gracyn Gurley brought in Abrianna Green and Sorrell to make the score 6-0. After two wild pitches from Albany State, Gracyn Gurley brought in another run for the Cougars.
Albany State finally got on the board in the third inning during a pick-off that led to an error by Green. The bottom of the third was short, but sweet for the Cougars as they were able to tally another run. Wright hit a ground line drive to center field that brought in Gurley from second base. After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, the Cougars run-ruled Albany State 9-1.

Game Two - Columbus State 8, Albany State 0
After two scoreless innings, the Cougars struck first, going up 2-0 in the bottom third.
Ella Hopper walked and
Carlee Wilson got hit by a pitch, landing two Cougars on base. Hopper came in to collect a run from an error and
Anna Waites grounded to third which allowed Wilson to add to the score.
Following a quiet third inning, the Cougars opened the fourth with a double to right field, allowing
Brooke Thompson to advance to third and
Madison Hanchey to come across home plate. A throwing error from Albany State allowed Thompson to come across home plate to make the score 4-0.
Nova Wright hit a sacrifice fly RBI to get Beddingfield across home plate for a 5-0 lead. With bases loaded for the Cougars,
Avery Hays was hit by a pitch that brought in another run from Hopper. To end the inning 8-0,
Madison Norrell hit a single to bring in
Anna Waites and Wilson.
