ATLANTA, Ga. - Columbus State University men's and women's track & field traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the Emory Dooley Elite Meet on Saturday.
The men's program led the way with a third-place team finish while the women finished eighth.
For the men, William Player led with yet another performance that was good enough for an NCAA qualifying mark, capturing first place in the pole vault with a mark of 4.85m. Camerin Rigdon followed with a mark of 4.55m for fourth while Alexander Kendall went for a mark of 4.25m for fifth. Drake Dalton and Corbin Hunzeker both marked a height of 3.80m for seventh as well.
As for the rest of the jumps, Zameron Boozer recorded a mark of 1.93m in the high jump to capture second place while Jarvis Evans followed with a fifth-place performance of 1.88m. In the long jump, Kendall Parker marked a distance of 6.47m for fifth with Nabeel Tufeiru marking 12.27m for third in the triple jump.
The Cougars produced some strong performances in the throws with 11 total top 10 finishes. Teriel Mitchum led with a third place (14.35m) finish in the shot put followed by seventh (13.18m) from Raylene Magby and eighth (12.98m) from Jacere Cooper. Joshua Dare led the discus with a fourth (45.50m) followed by Cooper in sixth (36.39m), Mitchum in seventh (36.23m) and Collin McKinnon in 10th (34.76m).
Rounding out the throws were Mitchum (5th, 45.21m), Dare (7th, 44.34m), and Magby (13th, 34.52m) in the hammer as well as McKinnon (4th, 45.17m) and Logan Fisher (5th, 38.72m) in the javelin.
In the track events, Brandon Dodd went for 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.07s and produced a top 15 finish in the 200m alongside Jayden Powell. Powell finished 11th with a time of 22.35s while Dodd raced for 22.75s. A total of five Cougars finished within the top 15 in the 400m with Powell and Ethan Sanders leading in third (49.70s) and fourth (50.37s), respectively.
Owen Hartshorn led the 800m with a time of 1:59.42 for eighth with Dante Walls leading the 110m hurdles with eighth after racing for 16.10s. Walls also notched fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.75s. In the steeplechase, Nicholas Phillips led the charge with a time of 10:31.85 for third followed by Zane Bell in fifth place with a finish of 12:07.19.
Rounding out the running events, the 4x100m relay squad of Jahmai Dillon, Dodd, Walls, and Tufeiru went for a time of 42.54s for third. The team of Anthony Brown Jr. Walls, Tyler Thomas, and Powell finished in fourth in the 4x400m relay after marking a time of 3:26.03.

As for the women, the Lady Cougars notched a total of 15 top 10 performances in Atlanta. Liza Varnum took fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.45m with three student-athletes landing within single digits in the pole vault. Sarah Arnold led in fifth (3.00m) while Faith O'Neal finished seventh (3.00m), and Amber Johnson finished ninth (2.70m). Kaitlyn Alston went for ninth in the long jump to lead the Lady Cougars with a mark of 4.65m.
In the throws, Kayli Miller led CSU in the shot put, hammer, and discus. She finished ninth in the shot put (9.75m), ninth in hammer (35.02m), and 12th in discus (32.62m).
Nakhia Montgomery raced in the 100m, finishing sixth with a time of 12.18s. In the 100m hurdles, Varnum finished fourth with a time of 16.32m, Syni Lacy finished sixth (16.96s) to follow with Alston rounding out in 10th with a time of 18.86s. Lastly Varnum and Alston raced in the 400m hurdles, finishing in fourth and ninth with times of 1:07.82 and 1:18.14, respectively.
