CLEMSON, S.C. – The ninth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 loss to fourth-ranked North Georgia on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, S.C.
Columbus State (16-7) opened with a 6-2 win from Isador Oliveira and
Laura Pesickova at the second line of doubles but unfortunately followed with a 6-3 loss on court one and a 6-2 defeat on court three, giving away a 1-0 lead to the Nighthawks (20-6).
UNG went up 2-0 after a 6-3, 6-1 win over
Nikoline Gullacksen at the first position. The Nighthawks then went up to a three-point edge with Oliveira slipping 6-4, 6-4 at the fifth position. With the advantage, Pesickova fought hard in a 7-6 first set, slipping 7-0 in the tiebreaker before dropping a 6-2 second set in what would be the clinching point for UNG.
The matches at the second, fourth, and sixth lines were left unfinished. At the second line,
Mariana Ramirez battled to force a third set after taking the second set 6-4.
Sofia Lauretti's match was left at 5-5 in the third set as she bounced back with a 6-2 second set at the fourth position.
Annie Adams took set one, 6-4 at sixth singles but was left down 6-5 as the match was abandoned.
