DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Columbus State University softball saw its 2025 season conclude with a five-inning, 9-1 loss to Flagler College in the Peach Belt Conference quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at "The Hill".
The defeat dropped the Lady Cougars to a final record of 32-25, while the Saints advanced with a 32-19 mark. After several lengthy delays to kick off the tournament, the Lady Cougars were able to get things started nearly five hours from the scheduled 1:30 p.m. ET start time.
Columbus State struck first in the opening inning when
Mary-Catherine Sorrell scored on an RBI single by
Kara Wegienka. However, Flagler responded in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at 1-1.
Flagler took the lead in the second inning with an RBI double and extended their advantage in the fourth. FC delivered another RBI double, and an error allowed a score, pushing the Saints ahead 4-1.
The game slipped out of reach in the fifth inning when Flagler erupted for five runs on five hits, including a two-run single and a couple RBI hits.
Columbus State managed five hits in the game, with Sorrell and
Holly Lynn each contributing one. Starting pitcher
Julianna Franklin (17-13) took the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
