Lady Cougars Dominate North Georgia on Sea of Red Night 70–52

The Columbus State University Women’s Basketball team delivered an outstanding performance on Sea of Red Night Wednesday evening, with a 70–52 Peach Belt Conference victory over conference rival the University of North Georgia inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team delivered an outstanding performance on Sea of Red Night Wednesday evening, with a 70–52 Peach Belt Conference victory over conference rival the University of North Georgia inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.

The Lady Cougars jumped out early and never looked back, opening the game on a 21–13 first quarter before tightening up defensively in the second period. Columbus State limited North Georgia to just eight points in the quarter and carried a 40–21 advantage into halftime.

Columbus State continued to control the tempo after the break, pushing the lead to as many as 23 points midway through the third quarter. Balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure highlighted the night, as the Lady Cougars held North Georgia to 29.8 percent shooting from the field and just 1-for-17 from three-point range.

Letiya Reeves led Columbus State with a game-high 21 points, knocking down three three-pointers while adding three steals. Sophia Williams and Nekaya Williams each finished with eight points, while Nadea Smith added eight points and five rebounds off the bench. Columbus State also received strong contributions throughout the lineup, finishing with a 46–33 rebounding advantage and outscoring North Georgia 36–24 in the paint.

The Lady Cougars forced 18 turnovers and turned them into 17 points, while their bench accounted for 28 points in the win. Columbus State led for 39:23 of game time and controlled every quarter on the way to the decisive victory.

With the win, Columbus State improves to 16–3 overall and 10–2 in Peach Belt Conference play. Columbus State will continue conference action on the road Saturday, January 31, traveling to face Flagler Saints women's basketball in St. Augustine, Fla. Tip-off at Flagler Gymnasium is set for 1:30 p.m.
