The Columbus State University Athletics Department announced the hiring of Lee McCoy as the Director of Golf on Friday, June 30. McCoy is entering his second year as Director in the 2024-25 year.
During his first year at the helm of the Cougar men's golf program, he led CSU to three top-5 finishes, including a two second place finishes at the Bearcat Invitational (9/12/23) and the Spring Bulldog Clash (2/27/24). McCoy coached his first All-Peach Belt Conference, All-Southeast Region and PING All-American nominee, Bernard Meyer. In his sophomore season, Meyer won the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate in February and tallied three top-5 finishes and three top-10 placements.
A native of Dunedin, Fla., McCoy comes to Columbus with a prestige golf resume. He began his collegiate career in 2013 as a student-athlete on the men's golf team at the University of Georgia. As a Bulldog, he posted seven individual wins, was named the 2016 SEC Player of the Year, tabbed a three-time All-American and holds UGA's record for the lowest career scoring average. McCoy also was the 2016 Haskins Award Runner-Up and was a member of the 2015 Walker Cup and the 2015 Palmer Cup.
McCoy departed from UGA in 2016 to pursue a professional golf career for four years. He was the winner of the PGA Tour Canada in 2016 and the 2017 Q-School Finals. McCoy played two full seasons on the Korn Terry Tour and his best finish was tied for third. He competed in 13 PGA Tour events with his best finish being fourth.
After pursuing his professional career, McCoy returned to UGA in 2022 to finish his degree in housing management and policy, completing it in Spring 2023. Not only was he finishing school, but McCoy also served as a Student Assistant Coach for the Bulldogs for the 2022-23 season and was the Director of Online Instruction at Sub 70 Golf.
McCoy is married to his wife, Amanda, and has a two-year-old daughter, Lily.Â
