Louwell Dettrey

Louwell (Lou) Dettrey is in her first year as a graduate assistant coach with the Columbus State University women's basketball program in 2016-17. In addition to her work on the court, Lou serves as an academic coach and student life liaison for the Lady Cougars. This marks her fourth year at the university, coming in as a transfer student from Kinston, N.C.

Prior to moving to Georgia, Dettrey was a red shirt goal keeper for Southeastern University’s soccer team in Lakeland, Fla. – due to a previous knee injury. She was named All-American, Best Defensive player, was ranked among the top 20 best defensive players in the state, and set seven records that are to this day unbroken during her high school career. She also played on the Olympic Development Team (ODT) where she competed and played along with professional players.

Lou graduated from Columbus State with her Bachelor's in Health Science in fall of 2015 and is currently pursuing her Master's in Exercise Science.
