Shanila Chapman

Shanila Chapman enters her seventh season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Columbus State men's and women's cross country and track & field programs in 2026-27.

Chapman joined the Cougar coaching staff in 2020 and serves as the program's jumps coach. During her tenure, she has helped guide the men's and women's programs to multiple top finishes at the Peach Belt Conference Championships while coaching several conference champions, including Nate Blackmon (2021 Long Jump), Jackson Fulks (2021 Triple Jump, 2023 Long Jump) and Gavin Nembhard (2022 Triple Jump).

A former Cougar student-athlete, Chapman competed for Columbus State from 2013-18 and was one of the program's most accomplished sprinters and jumpers. She captured the 2018 Peach Belt Conference championship in the 100 meters and helped lead the Cougars to a conference title in the 4x100-meter relay. Chapman was a two-time NCAA National Championships qualifier, five-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection and USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree.

Chapman still holds the Columbus State school record in the long jump at 18 feet, 2.5 inches. She graduated from Columbus State in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology.
