Columbus - The scoring drought continued for the 10th-ranked Lady Cougars as they were shutout for the second straight match Saturday afternoon dropping a 2-0 contest to Lander in a Peach Belt Conference tilt at the Walden Soccer Complex.

CSU drops just its second game of the season and now stand at 13-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in league play while Lander improves to 10-1-3 on the year and 8-0-1 in PBC action.

It was Columbus State who had the first wave of scoring opportunities in the match but was unable to capitalize.  Jaci Carithers got on the loose end of a bouncing ball but the attempt was blocked in the box in the 31 minute.  Two minutes later Kansas Bayly had a clean look but the shot went high.

Minutes later, Lander caught the Lady Cougars on a counterattack as Kimberly Kesler hit the crossbar. The ball bounced into the box to an open Jamie Shaw who headed home her 11th goal of the season.

Carithers almost knotted the game up at one in the closing minutes of the first half as her header off a Kayla Brown corner kick was punched over goal.

Looking like a more energized team coming out of the break, CSU had several chances in the first five minutes of the second half but again couldn't find the back of the net.  Stephanie Lowery and Shea Wilby were both denied on great saves by the LU goalkeeper and Ashley Miller was a step slow on a follow-up attempt as the hosts tried to get the equalizer.

Kendall Couch put the finishing touches on the victory for the Lady Bearcats as she squeezed a shot inside the near right goal post for a 2-0 advantage with 24:14 remaining in the match.

Kelsey Blair was big in goal for Lander as she made seven saves to help LU keep a clean sheet while Mary Mancin registered two saves for CSU.

The Lady Cougars will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, October 24 when they travel to Montevallo to take on the Falcons in another Peach Belt Conference matchup.  Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
