Box Score Pembroke, NC - No. 25 Columbus State didn't allow a goal for the 10th match of the season blanking UNC Pembroke 1-0 at Varsity Grounds in Pembroke, NC Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars wrap up the regular season at 15-2-1 overall and 8-2-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. UNC Pembroke finishes 9-6-3 overall and 5-5-1 in conference.
CSU wasted no time getting on the board as Jaci Carithers scored her first goal of the season in the sixth minute. The goal came off a corner kick by Stephanie Lowery, which was her third assist of the year.
Columbus State dominated play in the first half outshooting the Braves 10-3 but the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Second half play was more even as CSU held just a 7-6 advantage in shots. However, neither team could find the back of the net as the Lady Cougars held on for the 1-0 shutout victory.
Senior Mary Mancin played all 90 minutes in goal for the victory. She made four saves en route to her fifth blank sheet of the season.
Britney Bennett took the loss for UNC Pembroke allowing the lone goal of the match. The loss drops her to 8-5-3 for the year.
The Lady Cougars now begin preparation for the PBC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, October 30. Columbus State will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament and host an opening round game but the opponent has yet to be determined.
