Columbus - No. 12 Columbus State scored all their goals in final 45 minutes of action including receiving a two-goal performance from Kansas Bayly as they went on to defeat Young Harris 4-0 Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference match-up at the Wilson Soccer Field in Young Harris, Georgia.
CSU improves to 9-1 on the year and 3-1 in PBC action while YHC falls to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Despite attempting 15 shots in the first half, the Lady Cougars were unable to crack through until they received a penalty kick in the 54th minute which Stephanie Lowery calmly converted to give the visitor's a 1-0 lead. The 15 first half shots are the most shots CSU has had in a half without scoring since they put up 16 against Tusculum on August 31, 2007.
The PK conversion got the offense going as Columbus State would add three more goals over the next 24 minutes to coast to their third PBC conference win of the year.
In the 70th minute, Kansas Bayly dribbled down the right side of the field and fired a shot into the upper corner of the net for her third goal of the season. Less than four minutes later, Bayly received a throw-in from Chelsea Person in front of the goal and knocked in her second goal of the contest.
Person got in on the scoring parade in the 78th minute as Kayla Brown crossed a ball in from the left side of the field to the front of the box which Person deposited in the goal. It is the third straight match the freshman has scored a goal.
CSU held a 29-9 shot advantage and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks for the contest. The 29 shots are the most they have had in a game since October 13, 2010 when the Lady Cougars fired 33 shots in an 8-1 victory over Clayton State.
Mary Mancin picked up the win between the pipes playing 77 minutes and making two saves. Meosha Hatcher closed out the match denying her lone shot attempted. Taylor Erickson suffered the loss allowing four goals despite making 15 saves.
The Lady Cougars have posted four consecutive shutouts and have not allowed a goal in over 431 minutes.
Columbus State returns to the field on Wednesday, October 3 when it hosts Georgia Southwestern in another PBC clash. The contest is also the Lady Cougars annual Kicks for the Cure game in which they will be raising funds for the Susan G. Koman Foundation. The original kick-off time has been pushed back an hour and is now set for 7:00 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
