Columbus - The Columbus State University women's soccer team fired 26 shots on its way to two goals as the Lady Cougars recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over Tusculum College Friday night. The match took place at the Walden Soccer Complex.

"The girls came out and responded great after dropping two tough matches last weekend," stated head coach Jay Entlich. "It was tough finding the net in the first half but we had a few great looks."

"We still have a long way to go to achieve the goals that we want to this season."

The Lady Cougars (1-2-0) started shooting early and often as Taylor Marks had two great looks in the opening five minutes. After getting a shot blocked in the box in the fourth minute, Marks just missed out on her first collegiate goal a minute later hitting the crossbar.

Tusculum (1-2-1) had its first look in the game in the 15th minute as Gabrielle Whitt sent a shot wide to the left of the net.

CSU was close to scoring the match's first goal just three minutes later as Chelsea Person broke away from defenders but the shot was saved by Marissa Williams.

In a three minute stretch late in the first half, the Lady Cougars took four dangerous shots with two being blocked in the box and the other two saved by Williams.

Just six minutes into the second half, the Lady Cougars finally broke through thanks to a heads up play by Casey Davis and Person. On a free kick about 25 yards out, Davis quickly passed the ball to Person who dribbled into the box and fired a shot into the goal to give CSU a 1-0 lead.

Shea Wilby just missed out on the match's second goal hitting the crossbar in the 53rd minute.

The Lady Cougars put the match away in the 74th minute as Tori Hood received a pass from Marks. Hood dribbled into the box and nailed the shot into the left side of the net.

CSU missed out on two more goals in the final 10 minutes including a shot by Nicole Corcione that hit the post.

Columbus State finished the match with 26 shots, the most by a Lady Cougar team since October 14, 2012 when CSU had 40 shots against Clayton State University.

Sophomore Meosha Hatcher made five saves picking up her first collegiate shutout and victory.

Tori Hood added her second goal of the year while Chelsea Person picked up her first. Casey Davis and Taylor Marks tallied their first assists of the season.

Columbus State will look to push its record to an even 2-2-0 mark facing against the University of North Alabama on Sunday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. UNA lost to Nova Southeastern 3-0 earlier in the day.
