Aiken, S.C. - For the third straight match, the sixth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team scored at least three goals as it defeated USC Aiken 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the Pacer Pit in Aiken, S.C.
Columbus State (6-0-1, 2-0-0) is now unbeaten in seven matches, the longest the Lady Cougars have started a season without a loss since 2010 when they opened 9-0-1.
It took most of the first half for the Lady Cougars to get on the board, but they finally broke through in the 38th minute as Tori Hood scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Shauna Griffin.
After the halftime break, Columbus State tacked on another pair of goals to extend the lead.
In the 60th minute, Chelsea Person took a pass from Nicole Corcione and buried it in the net to make it 2-0. The redshirt-junior has now scored in three consecutive matches, notching four goals over the last three games. Corcione now leads the Lady Cougars in assists with four.
With under 10 minutes to play, Kiana Nicholson added another CSU goal for good measure. It was the third goal of the season for the junior.
USC Aiken (3-5-1, 1-2-0) spoiled the shutout in the 83rd minute as Megan Smits set up Taylor Simmons for the lone Pacer goal.
Maylyn Parsons played all 90 minutes in net for the Lady Cougars helping Columbus State remain unbeaten.
Columbus State returns to action on Wednesday, October 1 as the Lady Cougars host Georgia College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from the Walden Soccer Complex.
