MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Columbus State University volleyball team fell 3-0 in a pair of matches on Friday at the 2015 Bobcat Classic in Milledgeville, Ga.

The Lady Cougars dropped a 3-0 decision in the opener against No. 16 Wingate before taking a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Shorter in the nightcap.

Game One

Facing the three-time defending Southeast Region champions, the Lady Cougars hung tough in the first set. Following a 6-0 Wingate run, Columbus State answered with four of the next six points to pull within 14-11. Andrea Skipor picked up a pair of kills during the run, while a Maddie Harris kill capped off the spurt.

Wingate took control the rest of the way though, pulling away for a 25-15 first set win.

Columbus State played well again in the second, battling to an 18-15 deficit late in the set. A kill from freshman Payten Joy made it a three-point game, but the Bulldogs ran off the final seven points to seal up a 2-0 lead.

In similar fashion, the Lady Cougars trailed by just a point, 15-14, midway through the third set. Again though, the Bulldogs had a late run in them, closing the set on a 10-4 rally to win the match.

Megan Frame led Columbus State with seven kills in the match. Cori Ehmen turned in 18 assists and Caytlin Merritt led the defense with 15 digs.

Game Two

In the second match of the opening day, the Lady Cougars struggled out of the gate digging a 13-7 hole in the first set. CSU earned three of the next four points before Shorter put the set away with nine straight and picked up a 25-12 win.

The Hawks came out of the gates quick in set two opening up a 9-2 advantage. Behind the serve of Abby King, Columbus State won five straight points to get right back into the set.

The two sides continued to go back and forth, playing to a 15-12 Shorter lead. The Hawks then found their stride, running off eight straight to pull away by a 25-15 margin.

Shorter doubled up the Lady Cougars 14-7 early in the third and continued to stretch it out, wrapping up a 25-15 victory.

Megan Frame topped the Lady Cougars in kills for the second straight match, picking up six. Freshman Malaisia Stallworth added five while making just one error.
