COLUMBUS – The ninth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team scored eight second-half goals on its way to an 11-0 rout of Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Â
The 11 goals are the most scored by the Lady Cougars since they won 11-0, also against Georgia Southwestern, on October 29, 2008.
Â
"We started a little slow, but were able to get going in the second half," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "It was good to see some players score that hadn't scored yet."
Â
Columbus State (9-2-0, 5-1-0 PBC) had seven shots and five corner kicks through the first 12 minutes, but the Lady Cougars couldn't find the net.
Â
That all changed in the 14
th minute when
Cassandra Wade broke through.
Hugrun Elvarsdottir put a pass in front of the net to a waiting Wade who tapped it home for her sixth goal of the season.
Â
The next 12 CSU shots were kept out of the net, but the Lady Cougars finally added on a pair in a 90-second span.
Â
Playing in her first match in nearly a month,
Riley Clark came back in a big way as the freshman finished off a pass from
Angelica Tabares for her third of the year.
Â
Tabares then got in on the scoring act shortly thereafter with her second of the season off an assist from
Flo Spano.
Â
The match went to halftime at just 3-0. The Lady Cougars then needed almost 12 minutes in the second half before they would get their first goal. The floodgates would open though after the first one went home.
Â
Elvarsdottir started the second-half scoring in the 57
th minute as
Ali Cook's pass left the junior one-on-one with the keeper. Elvarsdottir easily found the net for her first of two on the day.
Â
Olivia Jarrell joined the fun in the 61
st minute, getting the first goal of her day as well as Elvarsdottir notched her second assist.
Â
After Elvarsdottir found the net for the second time in the 64
th minute,
Delaney Borror took a deflected ball and scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Â
Jarrell tacked on another, heading home a corner in minute 75 before Cook took over the scoring duties.
Â
The freshman from Australia buried a free kick from approximately 35 yards out in the 79
th minute for her first career goal and quickly found a second in the 86
th minute.
Â
The scoring barrage concluded with just over one minute to play as
Keyle Snyder pounded home a rebound for her first collegiate goal.
Â
The Lady Cougars set a program record for shots on Saturday, outshooting Georgia Southwestern (3-8-0, 0-6-0) 50-1.
Â
Maylyn Parsons made a diving save on the only GSW shot of the day and earned her ninth victory of the season.
Â
Columbus State will now head on the road for a match at Young Harris on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
