COLUMBUS – The streak continued for the fifth-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State University women's soccer team as the Lady Cougars raced past eighth-seeded Montevallo 5-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday. The match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Columbus State (16-2-0) added another shutout to its ledger, setting a program record with its 10th straight clean sheet. The scoreless minute streak is up to 933 straight for the Lady Cougars. CSU also extended its home unbeaten streak to 33 matches.

Maylyn Parsons went the distance for the Lady Cougars and tied the Peach Belt Conference's all-time record with her 27th career shutout.

With the victory, the Lady Cougars move into Friday's conference tournament semifinal where they will take on the winner of Wednesday night's match between fifth-seeded Young Harris and fourth-seeded Armstrong State. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

"I thought we did an excellent job today in striking first and going on the attack," said head coach Jay Entlich. "This weekend won't be easy and we will have to prepare for a battle no matter who we play. At this point in the season, you don't get any easy matches."

After a perfect October, the month of November got off to a strong start as the Lady Cougars needed less than seven minutes to net their first goal on Wednesday.

CSU earned its third corner kick in the seventh minute of the match. Mandy Janowitz delivered the ball into the left side of the box where Nicole Corcione headed it into the right side. The goal was the 11th of the season for the two-time All-American.

One minute later, it appeared as if the Lady Cougars were going to add a second tally. However, Janowitz sent a shot off the right post that stayed out of the net and kept the match 1-0.

In the 23rd minute, strong team play led to CSU's second goal. Olivia Jarrell worked the ball down the right side and centered the ball to Corcione. With a defender between her and the net, Corcione played it left to Hugrun Elvarsdottir who was able to find the net for the seventh time on the year.

Just before the first half ended, the Lady Cougars found the net again. Keyle Snyder slipped a pass behind the defense to Riley Clark and the freshman put a shot into the right side of the net. For Clark, it was the fourth goal of her first season in a Lady Cougar uniform.

It was more of the same in the second half for Columbus State, with the Lady Cougars finding the net two more times.

Jarrell added to her team-leading total in the 66th minute off a pass from Corcione to give her 14 on the season, and Claire Belay headed home a corner kick from Ali Cook in the 75th minute to put the Falcons away.

Montevallo (6-9-1) got off just three shots on the afternoon compared to Columbus State's 23.
