AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Columbus State University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-14) to Augusta Wednesday night. The Peach Belt Conference match took place inside Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta.

Mary McCarty was the only Lady Cougar to record a double-digit kill night pacing the team with 14. Fellow senior Andrea Skipor had six. Caytlin Merritt had 11 digs.

"Give Augusta credit tonight," said head coach Casey Cornett. "They played extremely well and made it hard for us to do anything. We have to shake this one off and get ready for a big match against Montevallo at home on Friday."

The first set was tight with the two sides going back-and-forth.  Down 7-6 early, CSU won four straight points and five of the next six to move ahead 11-8.  Both McCarty and Skipor had kills in the run.

Columbus State (14-13, 5-12 PBC) stayed in front until Augusta ran off four straight to move ahead 15-13 to set up the exciting finish to the set as neither team led by more than three points. Kills from Megan Frame and Abby King tied the score at 20 before a late spurt gave the Jaguars the 25-22 set victory.

Augusta (16-13, 7-8) raced out to begin the second set going in front 7-2. CSU tried to stay in the set cutting the margin down to 12-7 until the Jags broke away again. The Jags eventually took the set 25-13.

Set three was very similar as Augusta won nine of the first 10 points in the stanza. The Lady Cougars won four points in a row to narrow the gap, but could never find a rhythm falling 25-14.

Columbus State will conclude the regular season on Friday at 7 p.m. against Montevallo inside the Lumpkin Center. A victory will clinch CSU a spot in the upcoming PBC Tournament. It will also serve as CSU's "Sea of Red Night" so all fans are encourage to wear red to the match.
