COLUMBUS – In the final contest before Peach Belt Conference play begins, the Columbus State University women's basketball team will take on King University on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center.

Columbus State's defense locked down Albany State in a 75-29 blowout victory last Tuesday night.
Alexis Carter led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 19 points.

"King is going to be a strong test for us. They've had a great start to their season and will be a stiff challenge. We have to continue to play well on the defensive end of the floor and use that to get easy shots on offense."

Wednesday's game will be just the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Columbus State won the initial meeting last season in Bristol, Tenn.

CSU used a strong second quarter to hold a 14-point lead at halftime and the Lady Cougars rolled to a 65-53 win at King last November.
Michelle Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points. Asouzu had eight points and 13 rebounds.

King (7-2) comes to Columbus on Wednesday riding a five-game winning streak, including a 4-0 start to Conference Carolinas play.

The Tornado extended their winning streak with a 74-57 victory at Southern Wesleyan on Saturday.

Through the first nine games, 11 different players have started at least once for the Tornado.

Sophomore guard Sheena Johnson leads the team in scoring at 15.1 points per night.

Columbus State is looking to start the season 5-0 for the second time in the last three years, also doing so in 2014-15.

CSU is one of just 12 teams still undefeated in Division II, joining Lincoln Memorial as the only teams in the Southeast Region without a blemish.

The Lady Cougars currently lead the country in opponents' field goal percentage (28.0), rebounds per game (52.0) and blocked shots per game (6.8).

CSU also ranks in the top five in turnovers forced per game (28.8), turnover margin (plus-11.3) and steals per game (14.5).
