COLUMBUS – The 28th-ranked Columbus State University baseball team continued seeing the ball well banging out 15 hits in a 14-3 victory over Tuskegee on Wednesday. The non-conference game took place at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.

It is the fourth straight game that CSU has scored over 10 runs and the sixth time in the past eight contests. Overall, the Cougars have scored double digit runs in seven of their 12 games so far.

"I was really pleased in the way we have played the past two days," said head coach Greg Appleton. "We have a big series coming up this weekend which really could be a measuring stick for us."

Columbus State (14-3) jumped on the Golden Tigers early scoring at least two runs in the first four innings to go in front 12-0.

Blake Edwards wasted no time extending his hitting streak to 11 games, as the senior led off the bottom of the first with a to centerfield. After a stealing second and moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jackson Oliver, Edwards scampered across the plate on a wild pitch.

Christian Miller made it a 2-0 game after a two-out double into the left-centerfield gap, scoring Mike McClellan.

The Cougars quickly made it 4-0 in the second on a two-run home run by Oliver, which he barley kept fair down the right field line.

CSU did most of its damage in the third and fourth innings scoring four runs apiece in each frame.

In the third, the Cougars did all their damage with two outs. With McClellan on second, Lake Hart made it 6-0 on a hard single to center. Justin Evans followed with a deep double to centerfield to plate Hart. After a throwing error that scored another CSU run, Edwards just missed out on a homer, doubling to left field increasing the Cougar lead to 8-0.

The long ball came back in the fourth as McClellan and Miller hit back-to-back homers to up the lead to 11-0. The Cougars added a fourth run in the inning on a wild pitch.

Tuskegee (2-9) got all three of its runs with one swing of the bat as Matthew Reed hit a three-run homer over the left field wall.

CSU would push its lead back over 10 in the bottom of the eight for the mercy rule to come into effect.  Evans had a double in the frame while Edwards and Oliver each drove in runs.

Luke Porter (1-0) got the start for the Cougars and pitched very well. In his four innings of work, Porter allowed just two hits while punching out five. Ryan Ihle, Chaz Wilson and Kolton Ingram all pitched scoreless innings in relief.

Edwards and Miller each had three hits for Columbus State. Edwards was 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a double while Miller was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a double and a homer. McClellan scored three times and drove in a pair. Oliver had three RBIs after a 2-for-5 performance.  Six Cougars had at least two hits.

Reed was 1-for-2 with the three-run home run.

Columbus State will have a critical early season Peach Belt Conference series with seventh-ranked North Georgia this weekend. The three-game series will begin on Friday in Dahlonega, Ga. at 4 p.m.
