COLUMBUS – The 13
th-ranked Columbus State University women's basketball team will put its six-game winning streak on the line on Wednesday night in a home contest against Montevallo. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center.
Last Time Out
Columbus State blasted out of the gates with a 16-point lead after the opening quarter as the Lady Cougars defeated Clayton State 78-56 Saturday.
Ashley Asouzu had 17 points to lead all scorers, while
Alexis Carter turned in her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 19 rebounds.
Howard on the Matchup
"We have responded really well over the last two weeks after our first loss. I'm still looking for us to put a complete game together, but we have been playing well. We need to continue taking steps forward and that starts again with Montevallo on Wednesday."
Series History
The Lady Cougars are 12-3 in 15 all-time meetings with Montevallo. Columbus State has won seven straight over the Falcons, dating back to the 2012-13 season. CSU is 6-1 in the Lumpkin Center.
Last Meeting
With the game still close at halftime, the Lady Cougars put together a strong third quarter and pulled away for a 76-57 victory over Montevallo in Columbus last February.
Britteny Tatum led the way with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
About Montevallo
Montevallo (4-13, 1-9 PBC) has had a rough go under first-year head coach Gary Van Atta, with just one win in its last 11 contests after starting 3-3.
UM's lone win in Peach Belt Conference play came in overtime at Flagler on January 14. The Falcons have lost three straight since.
Montevallo gives up the second-most points per night in the PBC at 72.1 points per game, while scoring just 65.8.
Senior Morgan Smith is having a solid final season, leading the Falcons in scoring at 13.4 points per game and averaging 7.5 rebounds.
CSU Notes
Columbus State (15-1, 9-1) has opened up a two-game lead in the loss column in the PBC's West Division.
The Lady Cougars pulled down 67 rebounds in the win over Clayton State on Saturday, the most for CSU since grabbing 72 in a win over Selma in December of 2014.
Ashley Asouzu was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for her work in three victories last week. The senior averaged 17 points and nine rebounds.
CSU has won 34 consecutive regular season games inside the Lumpkin Center, a streak that stretches over the last four seasons.
