COLUMBUS – The 15th-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team made it eight straight victories with a 2-0 win over Belmont Abbey on Wednesday. The nonconference match was played at the Walden Soccer Complex.

CSU has now won 35 consecutive October matches dating back to October of 2013.

"We're happy to get the win today," head coach Jay Entlich said. "We weren't very sharp and Belmont Abbey did a good job of making it difficult for us around the net."

The scoring got started early for the Lady Cougars, as Riley Clark put them on the board in the fifth minute of action. After having her initial shot saved, the sophomore cleaned up her own miss and tucked away her 10th goal of the season.

Columbus State (11-1-0) continued launching shots at the net, getting off 11 in the first half, but the match went to the halftime break at 1-0.

The second half saw much of the same, as the Lady Cougars had five corner kicks in the first nine minutes.

CSU finally broke through in the 59th minute with Tehgan Anguilm playing a perfect ball into the box and Cassandra Wade heading it into the left side of the net for the insurance goal. It was the ninth tally of the season for the senior.

Belmont Abbey (9-4-1) didn't get a shot off over the first 63 minutes, but its first opportunity was a dangerous one. Bria Riancho came up large for the Lady Cougars, making a kick save to keep the shutout intact.

Riancho would finish off the shutout, her second of the season, saving both BAC shots on goal.

The Lady Cougars dominated the possession throughout the match and outshot the Crusaders 22-4 on the afternoon.

Columbus State will play its final home regular season match on Saturday, as it hosts ninth-ranked Flagler. Saturday is also Homecoming at Columbus State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
