AMERICUS, Ga. – Despite leading by nine heading to the fourth quarter, the Columbus State University women's basketball team fell 71-68 to Albany State on Saturday. The game was part of the PBC/SIAC Challenge at Georgia Southwestern.

Tatiana Wayne scored 16 points for the second straight night to lead Columbus State (2-1) in scoring.
Machala Raymonville added 15 points, while
Jasmine Herndon finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

"We didn't start or finish strong tonight," head coach
Anita Howard said. "We had times where we were playing well, but we have to find more consistency over four quarters."

Albany State (2-2) jumped out in front early behind a 17-2 first quarter run that gave the Lady Rams a 22-9 lead after 10 minutes.

Columbus State charged back in the second though. Down 16, the Lady Cougars reeled off 11 straight points to get back within six and then scored the final 10 points of the quarter to lead 35-31 at halftime.

Still leading by four late in the third, CSU scored seven of the last nine points and held a 55-46 advantage heading into the fourth.

Tatum Jarvis scored the opening points of the final quarter, but the Lady Cougars reeled off 15 unanswered to take a 61-57 lead with just over five minutes to play.

Wayne tied the game at 62 with a 3-pointer and
Zomoria Clark put CSU back in front with a pair of free throws. Following an ASU make,
Chrisalyn Boston split two free throws to give CSU a 65-64 edge, but the ensuing possession ended in a Lady Ram three and they would hold on over the final three minutes.

CSU made 21-of-59 (35.6 percent) from the field on the night and was just 5-for-19 from the 3-point line.

Columbus State's next contest is Sunday, Nov. 26 at Carson-Newman. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tenn.
