AMERICUS, Ga. – The Columbus State University women's basketball team lit up the scoreboard on Friday night, racing past Fort Valley State for a 95-54 victory. The game was part of the PBC/SIAC Challenge at Georgia Southwestern.

Machala Raymonville and
Tatiana Wayne led Columbus State (2-0) with 16 points apiece.
Kaihla Carter added 12 points, while 11 different Lady Cougars scored in the win.

"I'm pleased with the way we played tonight," head coach
Anita Howard said. "We were ready to play from the opening whistle and we took care of business."

The Lady Cougars jumped on Fort Valley State (0-3) right from the start, scoring 11 of the game's first 13 points. The lead continued to balloon over the first 10 minutes, spreading as wide as 19 points before CSU ended the quarter up 29-10.

It was much of the same in the second quarter, as Columbus State opened on a 13-1 run. While the offense was rolling along, the CSU defense stepped its game up allowing just one made basket in the second 10 minutes.

By the time the dust settled on the first 20 minutes, the Lady Cougars took a 51-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Columbus State kept rolling in the second half, never seeing its lead dip inside of 30 points.

The Lady Cougars shot 38.7 percent (29-of-75) on the night and knocked down 10 3-pointers on the night. CSU was also 27-for-40 from the foul line.

Columbus State will take on Albany State on Saturday in the second half of the PBC/SIAC Challenge. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
