JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The season came to a close on Friday night for the 10^th-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team with a 6-0 loss against second-ranked Carson-Newman. The Southeast Region Final was played in Jefferson City, Tenn.
 
Columbus State wraps up 2017 at 16-4-0 overall with a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season and as Southeast Region runners-up.
 
"Give all of the credit to Carson-Newman tonight," head coach Jay Entlich said. "They played an excellent game and were the better team."
 
The two teams went back and forth in wide open play over the first 27 minutes of the match before Carson-Newman (19-0-1) struck first in the 28^th minute.
 
Olivia Jarrell nearly equalized off the ensuing kickoff, but her shot sailed high. Hugrun Elvarsdottir then blasted a shot that was saved to keep the match at 1-0.
 
The Eagles got on the board again in the 38^th minute to double the lead and it remained that way until halftime.
 
After the break, the field titled in the Columbus State direction with the Lady Cougars getting five shots at net in the first 10 minutes. CSU ripped off three more shots before C-N tallied back-to-back goals off corner kicks in minutes 69 and 70 to put the match away.
 
Carson-Newman added two more goals in the final 10 minutes for the final margin.
 
Columbus State was outshot 21-15 on the night.
