PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Columbus State University baseball team gave up 11 runs over the first three innings and fell 11-4 at West Florida on Wednesday. The game wrapped up a two-game series at Jim Spooner Field.

Columbus State (25-17) earned a split in the midweek series after winning the opener on Tuesday night. The Cougars will now return to Peach Belt Conference play with their final league series of the season at Francis Marion. The series begins Friday night at 6 p.m. in Florence, S.C.

Things did not start well for the Cougars Wednesday as CSU went in order in the first and then allowed five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Cougars got two of the runs back right away as
Turner Vincent followed a
Drew Webb single with a two-run home run in the second.

West Florida (24-19) answered back with three of its own though, and then tacked on three more to take an 11-2 lead after three innings.

Grant Berry tripled to start the fifth inning and
Tyler Fichter brought him home with a groundout. Columbus State then got a solo home run from
Jamal Howard to lead off the ninth inning.

Jalen Latta (1-2) took the loss for the Cougars, allowing the five runs in the first inning.
Jacob Boccucci tossed four scoreless innings in relief for CSU and
Chaz Wilson pitched a scoreless eighth.

Six different Cougars had a hit in the loss.
