COLUMBUS – Starting the season one day later than originally scheduled, the third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team hits the field for the first time Saturday to take on Union. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.

"It's always exciting to get another season started. We have a good group of returners and we're mixing in 14 newcomers this season, which always adds an extra level of excitement. Union is a good side and we're ready to get out there and see what we can do."

About Union
Union was picked eighth in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll after a 7-5-5 record in 2016.
The Lady Bulldogs return 15 players from last season, however just five of their 27 goals are back.
UU was one of the top defensive sides in the GSC in 2016, allowing just 20 goals on the season and recording seven shutouts.
Senior Shelby High is the only Lady Bulldog returning that scored multiple goals last season, netting a goal against Spring Hill and Valdosta State.
CSU Notes
The Lady Cougars begin the 2017 season as the unanimous favorite in the Peach Belt Conference, trying to capture their fifth straight regular season crown and fourth consecutive tournament crown.

Jay Entlich is entering his 14
th season at Columbus State, holding a 225-51-22 mark at CSU.
Columbus State returns six starters from last year's national semifinalist team, including All-Americans
Hugrun Elvarsdottir,
Olivia Jarrell and
Cassandra Wade.
The Lady Cougars were the top-scoring team in the country in 2016 at 4.0 goals per game, and return 55 of their 96 goals scored.
